So, are you excited to see what else we'll plan, experience, and do? I'm really looking forward to the next few days. I'm very excited! 😁
On Tuesday, we headed back to Honolulu. We drove into the city from the west and passed the Aloha Tower and the piers where the large cruise ships dock. A correspondingly large barge was moored there. Unfortunately, you couldn't get very close to the ship, so I can't say what it was called. In any case, its size was very impressive. I may have mentioned it before, but no amount of money could get me onto one of those things. These ships are simply way too big for me. 🙈
Our destination wasn't the harbor, though, but the Hard Rock Café in the city. There are more than 170 of them, spread across more than 50 countries around the world, and I've never been interested in them in my life. Firstly, because it's not my kind of music, and secondly, because I don't usually follow trends. But if a dear friend asks me for a favor, I'm happy to oblige. 😘 So, we both went to a Hard Rock Café for the first time in our lives, and yes, it was worth seeing and even impressive. The merchandise area is on the ground floor, and from there you go up to the first floor to the actual café. The decor is truly unique, as you can see from my photos. We only ordered a snack, but we really enjoyed the airy terrace and the view of Kalākaua Avenue.
Honolulu is truly special. ❤ I'm still not a fan of big cities, but Honolulu is simply different. Colorful, green, bustling, lively, but also truly beautiful. Of course, the outskirts are less exciting or glamorous—that's part of it, too.
Here are a few facts about Honolulu: The city covers an area of 177 km² (68.42 mi²). Waikiki makes up 8.8 km² (3.4 mi²) of that. To perhaps put the scale into perspective a little more, the entire island of O'ahu covers an area of 1,546 km² (597 mi²).
And here's another fun fact about the city. New York is called "The Big Apple," but Honolulu is nicknamed "The Big Pineapple." Another nickname is "Crossroads of the Pacific" due to its central location in the Pacific Ocean. And while I'm at it... Honolulu means protected harbor or calm bay. Well, now you're a whole lot wiser, huh? 🤓
On the way home, we took a little detour past the airport and learned about something I won't tell you about until a few days from now. I don't want to reveal any more about it yet. 😇
Aloha! 🤙🏼
