Happy Aloha Friday!

 

Happy Aloha Friday! That's what we say here when the weekend is just around the corner, and of course, the weekend also means treating yourself to some fun. Whatever that looks like for each individual. 😁

Last year we were already at the Kane'ohe Sandbar and found Mary's nephew Shannon among the crew of the boat that took us there. The trip was so wonderful that we definitely wanted to do it again. Last year, Shannon told us we should bring his aunt on the boat, and I promised to try. When we were at Mary's a few days ago, we talked about it again, and I asked my friend to come along. A little later, she agreed, and I was thrilled. 🥰

And Friday was the day! We met at He'eia Kea Boat Harbor to board the Kaneohe Bay Ocean Sports catamaran. My friend Mary brought her eldest sister Steph (Shannons mom) and her daughter-in-law Amber, Shannon's wife. Just like last year, I was struck by how friendly and accommodating the crew of this catamaran is. We met Shannon at the dock and boarded together, while he introduced us to each crew member. It was a big hello, and we received a very warm welcome and hug. Once again, we experienced the epitome of the Hawaiian expression "Ohana," which means family, but also includes friends. We sat down at our table, and soon the trip to the sandbar began.

In fact, my friend had never been to the sandbar before, and seeing how impressed she was by the view of the mountains and coastline was simply priceless. 💙 Mary was grateful that we had persuaded her to come along—even though it wasn't difficult. On the way to the sandbar, the crew gave a safety briefing, and after just a few minutes of sailing, the catamaran docked at the sandbar. Now, the guests, equipped with life jackets, made their way to the sandbank to try out the various activities there. Similar to Secret Island, they could try kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, snorkeling, playing volleyball, or sunbathing on the floating lounge platform.

Once everyone else was off the boat, we headed into the water. The catamaran has a very convenient staircase at the back that folds down and then reaches all the way into the water. It was great fun in the water, and when Shannon entered the water and started attracting the fish with soaked bread, I let him give me some bread too and started feeding the fish. They're used to it, of course, and they're not at all shy. 🐟 They even took the bread from my hands. There were some that were up to 50 cm long and quite rough. 😮

It was so nice to see how much fun everyone was having, and of course, the time went by far too quickly. It felt like we were on our way back to the harbor far too quickly. We will remember this wonderful day for a long time to come. As my dear friend always likes to say: "Let's make memories!" 💗

Happy Aloha Friday! Auf ins Wochenende!

 

Happy Aloha Friday! So sagt man hier, wenn das Wochenende vor der Tür steht und natürlich steht das Wochenende auch dafür, dass man sich etwas Spaß gönnt. Wie auch immer das für jeden Einzelnen aussieht. 😁

Letztes Jahr waren wir bereits auf der Kane’ohe Sandbar (Sandbank) und fanden unter der Crew des Bootes, welches uns dorthin brachte, Marys Neffen Shannon. Der Ausflug war so schön, dass wir ihn auf jeden Fall wiederholen wollten. Letztes Jahr sagte Shannon zu uns, dass wir doch seine Tante mal mit aufs Boot bringen sollten und ich versprach es zu versuchen. Als wir vor ein paar Tagen bei Mary waren, sprachen wir wieder davon und ich forderte meine Freundin auf, uns doch zu begleiten. Wenig später sagte sie zu und ich freute mich wie Bolle darüber. 🥰

Und Freitag war es nun soweit! Wir trafen uns im He’eia Kea Boat Harbor, um an Bord des Katamarans von Kaneohe Bay Ocean Sports zu gehen. Meine Freundin Mary brachte ihre älteste Schwester Steph und deren Schwiegertochter Amber, Shannons Frau, mit. Wie schon letztes Jahr fiel mir ins Auge, wie freundlich und zuvorkommend die Crew dieses Katamarans ist. So trafen wir Shannon am Kai und gingen zusammen an Bord, während er uns jedem Crew-Mitglied vorstellte. Es war ein großes Hallo und wir wurden sehr herzlich begrüßt und umarmt. Wieder einmal erlebten wir den Inbegriff des hawaiianischen Ausdrucks “Ohana”, was Familie bedeutet, aber auch Freunde beinhaltet. Wir nahmen an unserem Tisch Platz und bald schon ging die Fahrt zur Sandbank los.

Tatsächlich war meine Freundin bis zu diesem Zeitpunkt zuvor noch nie auf der Sandbank gewesen und zu sehen, wie sehr sie vom Anblick der Berge und der Küstenlinie beeindruckt war, war schlichtweg unbezahlbar. 💙Mary war dankbar, dass wir sie überredet hatten mitzukommen - obwohl das gar nicht so schwer war. Auf dem Weg zur Sandbank hielt die Crew eine Sicherheitsunterweisung ab und nach nur ein paar Minuten Fahrzeit legte der Katamaran auch schon an der Sandbank an. Jetzt machten sich die Gäste mit Schwimmwesten ausgerüstet auf den Weg auf die Sandbank, um die verschiedensten Aktivitäten dort auszuprobieren. Ähnlich wie schon auf Secret Island konnte man Kajakfahren, Stand-up Paddle Board ausprobieren, schnorcheln, Volleyball spielen oder sich auf der schwimmenden Lounge-Plattform sonnen.

Als alle anderen von Bord waren, machten wir uns auf den Weg ins Wasser. Der Katamaran verfügt an der Rückseite über eine sehr bequeme Treppe, die heruntergeklappt wird und dann bis ins Wasser reicht. Es war ein herrlicher Spaß im Wasser und als Shannon ins Wasser kam und mit eingeweichtem Brot begann die Fische anzulocken, ließ ich mir von ihm auch Brot geben und begann die Fische damit zu füttern. Die kennen das natürlich und sind gar nicht schüchtern. 🐟 Sie holten sich das Brot sogar aus meinen Händen. Dabei waren Exemplare, die bis zu 50cm lang und ganz schön ruppig waren. 😮

Es war so schön zu sehen, wie viel Spaß alle hatten und natürlich war die Zeit viel zu schnell um. Gefühlt viel zu schnell waren wir wieder auf dem Rückweg zum Hafen. Wir werden uns noch lange an diesen wunderbar gelungenen Tag erinnern. So wie meine Freundin immer gerne ausdrückt: “Let’s make memories!” - Lass’ uns Erinnerungen schaffen! 💗
