That's exactly how I feel right now, lost in time and space. Do you know that feeling? I had to really try to recall the last three days. Sure, yesterday (Tuesday) is still very fresh in my memory, but Sunday and Monday? No way! Oh man, if only I didn't have my photos... 🙈
I've thought several times over the past few days about what I want to tell you in my blog – each time prompted by a specific situation – and yet again I haven't gotten around to writing down my thoughts. I'll try to tie up the loose ends.
On Sunday, we got in the car in the early afternoon and drove south along the coastal road toward Honolulu. It's such a beautiful route! ❤If you're familiar with the new Magnum P.I. series and the opening credits, then you've seen the coastal road we drove along. This stretch of road starts at the Makapu'u Lookout and continues to Sandy Beach. From Kane'ohe, we drove through Kailua and Waimanalo to Hawaii Kai. After a brief stop at Koko Head, we continued via Hawaii Kai, 'Āina Haina, and Kaimuki to Honolulu. We took a leisurely drive a bit into Honolulu, then cruised through Waikiki on Kalākaua Avenue, taking in the hustle and bustle there. We returned the same way, making a brief stop at the Halona Blowhole Lookout.
Well, when you're driving on the island's roads, you quickly notice the variety of cars and, above all, the diversity of drivers. There are already a few electric cars here (presumably all from Tesla), and in the few days we've been here, we've seen more Elon Musk's Cybertrucks than I've seen at home. Wait a minute, I don't think I've ever seen one of those things at home before. You also come across "regular" cars and trucks (pickup trucks) – and there's plenty of them! It's already a very colorful mix compared to what you see on our roads, but then there's another aspect. Hawaiians love to pimp their trucks. Lifted trucks, big tires, a very bass-heavy stereo system... I really like that! 😃
A little anecdote. I read this recently on Instagram: Hawai'i is the only state where it's legal to transport people in the back of trucks. Oh yeah, and there's no helmet requirement here either. Every motorcycle fan will have a blast watching the impressive bikes on the streets.
Anyway, it's certainly an adventure when you're standing at a traffic light next to a truck with its tires flush with the roof of your sedan (we have a Toyota Corolla as a rental car), and on top of that, the vehicle emits such a powerful bass that you can feel it in your stomach. 😅
Monday is actually a short story. We took a short trip to Kualoa Regional Park. My sweetheart couldn't be held back and went for a swim while I enjoyed the sun, the wind, and the beautiful scenery. On the way back, we bought some snacks because we had booked a trip for Tuesday, and it was truly amazing! More about that in my next post. 😉
Aloha! 🤙🏼
